WOW!!!! After comparing the video from Kingsboro 2008 to the performance on Saturday, our GAS performance outdid the Music under the Bridge !!
Great job by all - thanks to all who sat in, lent us their bodies, equipment, time - it made it all worthwile. (even Hippy Skippy!)
A - B I G - thanks to Carolina for fllying in for the weekend to fill in with the bari line - how many people would do a 4,100 mile round trip to play a 8 minute show that you know.
A round of applause to Red & Screech for a great arrangement of Gone With The Wind, and to Dee "Scarlet O'Hara."

Violin Lessons « Result #2 on Mar 12, 2009, 9:11pm »
"Daddy, can I learn to play the violin?" young Sarah asked her father. She was always asking for things and her father was not very pleased.
¡¡¡¡"You cost me a lot of money, Sarah," he said. "First you wanted to learn horse riding, then dancing, then swimming. Now it's the violin.
¡¡¡¡"I'll play every day ,Daddy." Sarah said. "I'll try very hard.
¡¡¡¡"All right," her father said. "This is what I'll do. I'll pay for you to have lessons for six weeks. At the end of six weeks you must play something for me. If you play well, you can have more lessons. If you play badly, I will stop the lessons."
¡¡¡¡"0. K. Daddy," Sarah said. "That is fair.
¡¡¡¡He soon found a good violin teacher and Sarah began her lessons. The teacher was very expensive, but her father kept his promise.
¡¡¡¡The six weeks passed quickly. The time came for Sarah to play for her father.
¡¡¡¡She went to the living room and said, "I'm ready to play for you, Daddy.
¡¡¡¡"Fine, Sarah," her father said. "Begin.
¡¡¡¡She began to play. She played very badly. She made a terrible noise.
¡¡¡¡Her father had one of his friends with him, and the friend put his hands over his ears.
¡¡¡¡When Sarah finished, her father said, "Well done, Sarah. You can have more lessons."
¡¡¡¡Sarah ran happily out of the room. Her father's friend turned to him. "You've spent a lot of money, but she still plays very badly. he said.
¡¡¡¡"Well, that's true," her father said. "But since she started learning the violin I've been able to buy five apartments in this build very cheaply. In another six weeks I'll own the whole building!"

We tried so hard to make things better for our kids that we made them worse. For my grandchildren, I¡¯d know better.
I¡¯d really like for them to know about hand-me-down clothes and home-made ice cream and leftover meatloaf. I really would.
My cherished grandson, wow power leveling I hope you learn humility by surviving failure and that you learn to be honest even when no one is looking.
I hope you learn to make your bed and mow the lawn and wash the car -- and I hope nobody gives you a brand-new car when you are sixteen.
It will be good if at least one time you can see a baby calf born, and you have a good friend to be with you if you ever have to put your old dog to sleep.
I hope you get a black eye fighting for something you believe in.
I hope you have to share a bedroom with your younger brother.wow power leveling And it is all right to draw a line down the middle of the room, but when he wants to crawl under the covers with you because he¡¯s scared, I hope you¡¯ll let him.
And when you want to see a Disney movie and your kid brother wants to tag along, I hope you take him.
I hope you have to walk uphill with your friends and that you live in a town where you can do it safely.
If you want a slingshot, wow power leveling I hope your father teaches you how to make one instead of buying one. I hope you learn to dig in the dirt and read books, and when you learn to use computers, you also learn how to add and subtract in your head.
I hope you get razzed by friends when you have your first crush on a girl, and that when you talk back to your mother you learn what Ivory soap tastes like.
May you skin your knee climbing a mountain, wow gold burn your hand on the stove and stick your tongue on a frozen flagpole.
I hope you get sick when someone blows smoke in your face. I don¡¯t care if you try beer once, but I hope you won¡¯t like it.wow gold And if a friend offers you a joint or any drugs, I hope you are smart enough to realize that person is not your friend.
I sure hope you make time to sit on a porch with your grandpa or go fishing with your uncle.
I hope your mother punishes you when you throw a baseball through a neighbor¡¯s window, wow gold and that she hugs you and kisses you when you give her a plaster of paris mold of your hand.
These things I wish for you -- tough times and disappointment, hard work and happiness.

Jim Breen « Result #4 on Nov 30, 2008, 9:32pm »
This has been a rough year for the Breen family. We lost Dad after DCA weekend. I traveled home from Rochester & was a half hour late. NYPD, FDNY & local ambulance services all in front of Dads apt. Red flashing lights closing down 74th-75th street & 4th. A 5 year battle had ended. The Breen family thanks you for your support. We will NEVER forget the corps honor guard & Reds tribute. We still have tuff times ahead with Dads birthday on Dec 22nd followed by the first Christmas without him. Dad was a big fan of Drum Corps, half-time shows & parades. Just remember as we take the streets or perform on stage we have many of those who have left us at our sides. This group has really turned into a special family. We work great together & have allot of fun. Lets keep at it.

I was very proud to be the Director of BU Wednesday night. To see us in uniform as we honored one of our own. Red always seems to be ready for the task. The room was filled with his sound as all listened. We sent Carmen off in true D&B style. Yes this family has lost one of its special members. She now joins the ranks of many that have gone before her. She may rest in peace knowing that this family will take care of the ones she has left behind. We will be there for all that need us > in good times & bad.

THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE WAS SENT TO OUR DIRECTOR, TOM BREEN FROM THE BRACERO FAMILY.
Dear Tom
On behalf of the entire Bracero Family I would like to thank you & Brooklyn United for paying your respects in such a fitting way.
As you all know we are a Drum Corp family starting with my father who in his youth marched for St Michaels Drum & Bugle Corps when his was in St. Michaels home as a child .
My Mother & Father joined in 1975 when my Cousin Anthony , who joined the O.L.P.H. Ridgemen in 1974 - introduced myself , my siblings along with my cousins & we joined as a family.
I can still remember my Mom waking me up in the middle of the night on tour because the girls were after on ( " initiation night" ) & I still remember re-assuring her that it was part of being a member & that they would probably not do anything too harsh. So the next night she was thrown into a shower & that was all -- they went easy on her -- we all had a good laugh seeing her soaking wet in her clothes & that night - she became an accepted & much loved member of the Ridgemen Family ;-)
The rest is pretty much history & I now thank God for it all because that gave our family memories that will last us a lifetime. When you join a drumcorp you inherit a family circle that will always be by your side in good times & bad.
Thank you all -- for your kindness, your thoughts & prayers & for making Mom happy in her last years

"CARMEN" Bracero « Result #8 on Aug 8, 2008, 11:08am »
For those who haven't received the news, Alferd (snare line) lost his mother this past weekend. Members of the corps were in attendance to pay their respects on Wednesday afternoon and evening. Our horn instructor, Rich "Red" Wardlow stood at the head of the casket that evening and played a beautiful reendition of AMAZING GRACE that would make the hair on the back of your neck stand on end - a truly beautiful and final tribute to a corps member's mother, as well as a Corps member herself , She will be truly missed, but not forgotten.

Lets try this again... In response to Tom's post aka budirector... I have a feeling that whatever you want to accomplish will be accomplished this year. A field show is not out of the question.
First, If you click on "quote," you can then type in the same box directly under that quote. Otherwise, you can just post a reply in the box at the bottom of the screen. This will then show as an additional thread post.
Second, in speaking to budirector, we briefly threw around the thought that it might be advantageous to link up with the band circuit (please don't cringe!) to invite two or three high school bands to the show. The rationale is that these groups also have a following, and that following equals "GATE SALES" Once they see traditional drum corps, they may get "hooked on Bugles" IMHO. ADMIN
